FASHION: My Summer Uniform
Posted on | June 29, 2011
Temperatures today, all week, in the triple digits. I think I will once again be wearing my summer uniform. No, not a bikini. Apparently that isn’t considered appropriate business attire, even when you own your own company. In the Fall, Winter and Spring I think my favorite piece of clothing is likely a blazer- as it will completely change the look of an outfit. In the summer however, the sundress reigns supreme. I literally live in sundresses if for no other reason than the be able to bear the Dallas heat.

Having just returned from Europe I can say the other advantage to a great sundress is it’s versatility. In a move I’ve never before attempted, I packed for two weeks in one suitcase. Yes, I managed to get more than 30 outfits into one 50.1lbs suitcase. Thankfully the airlines let the 0.1lbs slide. Most versatile piece in my suitcase? My sundresses. I have a theory that you should be able to wear a sundress at least two of three ways but there really are very few that, styled right, can’t work in any setting. For day, for evening and as a cover-up. If you are wearing it multiple times on a trip I suggest you wear them in that order because if you wear it as a cover-up before you wear it for day or evening it might be a little worse for wear.
I selected four different dresses from one of my new favorite boutiques, Mine. (Located in Dallas at 4423 Lovers Lane.) Each one was easily able to accommodate the three different looks. Each look is styled as a cover-up, for day (to wear to lunch with your girlfriends or even to work) and for evening. So when you are feeling guilty about buying summer dresses to wear on your vacation to the beach or out at night just find a way to wear them to work and you can feel much better about your purchase. In fact, didn’t you now just make an investment into your business wardrobe?
