Day 19: In My Little Black Dress

Posted on | August 19, 2009

What is “The Little Black Dress Experiment” all about? Read the introduction here.

Flip-flops. If you have to look great when you are out and about but have some errands to run or have to do a lot of driving I recommend bringing a cute pair of flip flops in the car to give your feet some relief between heel wearing episodes. If you are in NYC or another metropolitan area you are probably already used to throwing your heels in your bag while getting around in a pair of flats.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: What do you do to relieve feet stress when you have worn heels for long periods of time?

LOCATION OF THE DAY: The nicest Taco Cabana patio I have ever seen

THE DRESS: “The Valerie Shift” designed by Elli Grace. Black cowl neck, sleeveless, knit dress.

WHERE TO BUY: Available online now at Elli Grace

PRICE: $150

MODEL: Deco Glamour

WHERE TO BUY: Available at MICHELE retailers include Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and

PRICE: $3,295 Deco Glamour Diamond with Stainless Diamond Bracelet

ABOUT THE PIECE: The Deco style is one of the top seller’s for MICHELE. The Deco Glamour just seems like a perfect match for me, right? Bringing together two of my favorites MICHELE & Glamour. This month I’ll be pairing this watch head with a variety of straps from my strap wardrobe to showcase how changing the strap on your watch can change not just the look of the watch but often the look of the outfit as well.

ABOUT THE PIECE: I purchased this jacket at Loehmann’s in LA for about $40. It is a great piece to layer for days when there is a varying temperature and though it is lightweight it can add some warmth. (Something we don’t need a lot of in Dallas right now.)

SHOES: Calvin Klein

ABOUT THE PIECE: Picked up these great navy and white shoes back in May at the Ross across from The Grove in LA. They often have great designer pieces on deep discount. This classic pair of shoes was just $31.99.

SCARF: Hot pink Fuschia Scarf

ABOUT THE PIECE: I bought this great pink scarf after receiving a similar one for Mother’s Day Gift and thinking how useful and versatile they were…not to mention, well-priced. The scarf came from Target and cost about $12.99. Target has a great selection of scarves and wraps at very affordable price points.

BELT: St. John White leather/burnished brass wide belt

ABOUT THE PIECE: While accompanying my husband to San Antonio for business in January I got to indulge in one of my favorite past times, outlet shopping. We made a brief stop at the San Marcos outlets where I discovered a St. John outlet with Target prices. I’ll be wearing a number of pieces from that amazing shopping trip throughout the month. I picked up this very versatile belt for just $18, MSRP $145.

HANDBAG: Marc Jacobs

ABOUT THE PIECE: This “navy” (I think it looks “royal” but MJ calls it “navy” and he gets final say) Venetia is my favorite handbag. I have had it for quite a few seasons and enjoy endless compliments whenever I carry it. I purchased this bag at Nordstrom from a limited run (it has the gold tone hardware) at retail, $1195. It is one of the only pieces in my handbag wardrobe that can claim full retail price.

Well not surprisingly my day started very earlier…5AM. Yes I know you are all thinking come on Valerie 9:30 isn’t early. LOL Had to be up early to prepare for the busy morning. At 7AM (while enroute to my interview at FOX) I was on live with Mad Dog and Billie on Virgin Radio Toronto…yes, in Canada.

I wrapped that interview in the car and continued on to FOX4 where I quickly had my make-up touched up, did set-up for the display, did a quick teaser and then was on live with Krystle Gutierrez on Good Day. Check out here great Michele Diamond Deco watch. After leaving FOX I went to grab some breakfast at The Pancake House and then once again tried to buy Vogue’s September issue only to find it is still not out. I have to admit my mail service where I live is so delayed it probably still will be on the shelves before the subscription arrives.

Then it was on to my interview with KRLD for Mike Rogers’ “The Other Side of the News” segment. Great guy and boy is his voice recognizable. I then stopped in to Stanley Korshak where I tried on (quite a few) outfits for the Kidney Texas fashion show. Here is a red Valentino suit I tried.  I can’t show you what I’ll be wearing but you can bet it will be a Little Black Dress.

Then I was back to the office for some paperwork with a quick nap mixed it. I was excited to find an offer from GigiHill handbags to add a handbag wardrobe to the prize package we are giving away at the end of the month. Reminder keep posting your comments and tips on our blog as that will be your entry into the drawing for “The Valerie Shift” from Elli Grace, a Michele watch, a handbag wardrobe from GigiHill and more. So many fun and exciting offers coming in that I can’t report them all but I am so excited for things to come.

Be sure to keep following The Dress Diaries to see what happens and spread the word about The Little Black Dress Experiment to your friends, family and anyone who will listen J

Seriously, nothing beats a great pedicure when it comes to relieving stressed feet! However, another great option is to stop in at your closest ALDO shoe store and pick up a few pairs of their foot pads for your shoes. These are the best I’ve found in terms of comfort, support and longevity.

I agree that the way to relieve tired feet on “heel” days is to have a pair of comfy flip flops handy in the car. I put them on to drive, and they are appropriate for some of the errands. My flip flop of choice is Yellow Box. They feel like walking on air, and my feet are happy.
