Day 4: In My Little Black Dress

Posted on | August 4, 2009

What is The Little Black Dress Experiment all about? Read the introduction here.

Sometimes we all just want to look presentable and wear a cute, outfit while we run around town. I suggest if you’ll be on your feet for a while, whether at the mall or at the kids soccer game, wear flat comfortable shoes. Your feet will thank you later. (Inspiration? my feet are still upset about Saturday’s jaunt at the mall)

QUESTION OF THE DAY: What do you do to relieve tired/sore feet and calves?

LOCATION OF THE DAY: Primo’s at Lake Ray Hubbard

THE DRESS: “The Valerie Shift” designed by Elli Grace. Black cowl neck, sleeveless, knit dress.

WHERE TO BUY:  Available online, beginning August 7, at

PRICE: $150

MODEL: Deco Glamour

WHERE TO BUY: Available at MICHELE retailers include Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and

PRICE: $3295 Deco Glamour, with SS Diamond Strap; $2695 Deco Glamour, head only; $200 Garnet Alligator Strap

ABOUT THE PIECE: The Deco style is one of the top seller’s for MICHELE. The Deco Glamour just seems like a perfect match for me, right? Bringing together two of my favorites, MICHELE & Glamour. This month I’ll be pairing this watch head with a variety of straps from my strap wardrobe to showcase how changing the strap on your watch can change not just the look of the watch but often the look of the outfit as well. Today I paired it with the Garnet Alligator Strap

ABOUT THE PIECE: I scored this cute little jacket at Anthropologie last fall for a steal. I paid about $30, marked down from $100+ I have worn it a few times and always have gotten compliments. I love the neutral color and then overzied button detailing.

SHOES: Xhilaration

ABOUT THE PIECE: I picked these shoes up at Target, Spring 2008, for $12.99. The shoes are great for running about town but for my feet (since they are so big) I tend to like to wear them just for short periods of time. They add a nice pop of color to basic neutral toned outfits.

EARRINGS: Red vintage style drops

ABOUT THE PIECE: These were part of a set I picked up on the clearance rack at JC Penney about a year ago. I found they were a good match for some of my red vintage crystal pieces. The set was about $8.

NECKLACE: Red vintage crystal

ABOUT THE PIECE: I bought this necklace at a vintage shop about eight years ago. The necklace was missing some beads so I had it restrung for about $10 at a jewelry store. Cost of the necklace was about $10.

The day started out going smoothly, everything was running on course to get staged for the CW33 interview, until the photog called in sick. Bummer had to reschedule for tomorrow, which took a little juggling but we are settled and I am looking forward to a great interview. Spent the day getting office work done and got a client’s entire consignment order set to sell. Took a jaunt out to Primo’s on the lake for some yummy hamburgers and returned home to find the September issue of Glamour in the mailbox. Guess who is in it? Be sure to check it out and get $25 Off at Cold Water Creek. This evening brought great news of another interview on Thursday, this time with Channel 8. Looking forward to showing the different Little Black Dress looks. Still have to decide what children’s book to read at the Mayor’s Book Nook on Thursday. Suggestions?

If you’re going to have a long day on your feet, be sure to wear shoes that have comfortable padding. There are a lot of really attractive sandals that will keep you looking good and feeling good as well. But when you’ve overdone it and need some relief, that’s when your significant other can step in with a good footrub. Yum Yum!

Love your jacket on this day. Your choice in jackets seem to be ones that can be considered classics and never dated.
