I’m Kadi Prescott, creator of Girly Gazette and proud California girl! By day, I’m a work at home mother of seven who has to dress with a focus on functionality and comfort. On the flip side, I’m a media maven and creator of social networking events. This alter ego feeds my need to socialize and get glam! My mission in life, outside of hosting my own television show, is to teach the world that motherhood should not kill our inner fashionistas!

The Little Black Dress Experiment is a perfect exercise in nurturing the portion of our brains that is dedicated to glamour (this has not been proven but I am sure it exists!)  I chose to shoot at the Mission Inn in Riverside because it has the most elaborate attention to detail and is bursting with historic energy. The vivid colors of the Inn’s rooftop were a perfect contrast to the classic black dress.

California is the place where stars are born and bred. You don’t dare go out on the town without looking like you belong on the big screen. Seriously, you never know when you might be seated next to James Cameron. I chose accessories that were full of character, like the Inn. Since California’s fall weather is warm and breezy, I decided to dress for it. I’m a firm believer in accentuating your best assets so I altered the dress slightly to play up my curves. Moms can be sex kittens to, you know! Accessories are the best part of an outfit, in my humble opinion. They can be a splurge like my necklace was, or a fun piece that cost under ten dollars (such as my glasses.) Whatever accessory I choose, it has to call me. If it doesn’t make my heart sing, it isn’t meant to be mine.

You can see more pictures of the shoot on Girly Gazette and learn about the amazing women who helped give this day of the LBD experiment some fun California flavor.

The Low Down:

Dress: Ann Taylor “Little Black Dress.” I shortened the hemline to a mini dress length and tucked the collar into the dress to create a dramatic plunging neckline. Like I always say, “Go sexy or go home!”
Makeup: Sephora.
Eyes: The Natural Eye Kit by Too Faced; Maybelline “The Falsies” Mascara
Face:  e.l.f Contouring Blusher/Bronzer Duo
Lips: Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Baby Pout
Shoes and Glasses: Aldo.
These fun stiletto booties were both sexy and easy on the feet due to a platform and some gel inserts. (I’m all about glam but not at the price of torturing my tootsies.)
Aviator glasses were the natural choice and these ones were on sale for five dollars! See? I can be frugal too!
Hat: Urban Outfitters.
The pin tucked fedora was a stylish way to hide the shorter layers of my hair. (I wore extensions for the shoot.)
Bag: SweetTooth Bags.
A hint at my passion for all things retro. I chose a print with bright colors and a feminine floral feel to balance out the masculinity of the hat. Amy custom made my bag with gold handles for the shoot because she’s fabulous like that.
Bangles: Target.
Necklace: Ivy Stella.
14K Gold/Plated Mixed Medium, 4 Tear Multiple Length Necklace, 8-12 MM, AAA Stunning Amethyst. The artist at Ivy Stella was an absolute doll and custom made this piece just for the LBD Experiment. Her work is absolutely breath taking!

Where art meets passion for photography, magic happens. Sarah did an outstanding job at capturing the spirit of the shoot and making me look like a model, which I normally do not. (Hey, just keeping it real!)

BLOGGER BIO: Kadi Prescott is a social media maven, mother of 7 and southern California native. When she’s not hosting her web show on Mingle Media or working in traditional media, she enjoys creating marketing campaigns for brands. Kadi and her family have been featured in the LA Times, on Dr. Phil and an episode of Supernanny. Her dream is to host a television show that focuses on the evolution of motherhood by combining new and traditional media. Kadi believes that glamour is a state of mind and that motherhood should enhance a woman’s self esteem rather than diminish it. She strives to set an example of that in her own life, even after birthing seven children. Kadi’s favorite stores are Forever21 and Target because they allow her to stay glam on a budget. Not ironically, her version of the Little Black Dress will feature looks from both stores. You can get to know more about Kadi by visiting her portfolio site or following her on Twitter.
