Gift #1: Christmas at the White House

Today we are introducing first annual Society Stylist Holiday Gifting Calendar. Each day, through Christmas, we will share a gifting idea to help you search out just the right gift for your friends, family and other people you are obligated to give a gift….fyi, your boss isn’t one of them.  We’ll also be highlighting “Fashionista Favorites” and sharing a gift wishes from designers, trendsetters and other fashion industry darlings.

Today I had the opportunity to go on Good Morning Texas and happened to run into fellow Junior Leaguer and Theta alum, Jennifer Pickens. She was on the show promoting her new book “Christmas at the White House.” I have heard rumors about the book for the past year and have been excited for its release so I was thrilled to hear her story first hand. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of the book for myself!!!

Rebecca Minkoff, the young design prodigy behind Rebecca Minkoff, has a few gift wishes this year. She’d like Uggs, an iPod, a Mac Book Air, nude Louboutins, a big closet and long hair. So when you’re out shopping….

Christmas at the White House

About the Product: Now before you get any ideas and think this is some sort of “experience” gift where you can go to the White House Sahali-style, let me clarify. This is not an invitation, it’s a book. A book that beautifully illustrates the White House holiday traditions and décor dating back to the Kennedy’s and includes not only a section introduction by each of the living first ladies but a foreword by former First Lady Laura Bush.

Giving back: A portion of the proceeds will be given to the White House Historical Society.

Where to buy: Click HERE to buy the book online or see the list of stores where you can purchase the book. The book is also available at Neiman Marcus.

Cost: $75

Shipping: Click here to get FREE SHIPPING thru December 17, 2009.

Ideal for: This beautiful coffee table book is perfect for those who love the familial side of our first families, those interested in décor and tradition, those interested in general history and those who love Christmas….and who doesn’t love Christmas? Also a PERFECT gift for the Sahali’s because something tells me they aren’t going back to the White House for Christmas, with or without an invitation.

Not recommended for: Scrooge and others like him.

Book Signing & Holiday Tea: Free tomorrow between 2-4PM? Get your ticket to the Holiday Tea at Arlington Hall at Lee Park where you can pick up the book in person and hear Jennifer tell the story. Tickets are available online HERE for $65.

From the publisher: Christmas at the White House beautifully documents the lavish public and private Christmas decorations, celebrations, themes and traditions spanning half of a century inside the world_s most famous address: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Illustrated with more than 500 exquisite photographs, most of which have never been viewed by the public before, this 408 page book is the first documented and published history of fifty years and nine different administrations beginning in the early 1960s with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, who initiated formal Christmas themes at the White House. With a foreword written by First Lady Laura Bush, this singular book has earned the devotion of six of the most recent United States First Ladies, all of whom penned introductions to their sections. Read what Betty Ford, Rosalynn Carter, Nancy Reagan, _Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Laura Bush have to say about how they celebrated Christmas inside America_s most special home. _This book should be on every person_s gift list, regardless of age or nationality,_ says Letitia Baldrige, Jacqueline Kennedy_s former White House Social Secretary, who wrote the introduction to the section on the Kennedy years. First Daughters Lynda Johnson Robb and Tricia Nixon Cox provided insights into what Christmas was like when they were at the Executive Mansion. Author Jennifer Pickens interviewed dozens of White House insiders including First Families, social secretaries, chiefs of staff, chefs, florists, volunteers, artisans and more. The book also includes special features on the White House crèche, the selection of the official White House Christmas tree and many more time-honored traditions such as the annual gingerbread house, highlighted by lively anecdotes from renowned Executive Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier. Christmas at the White House provides a spectacular view into one of the most historic homes in the world, during the most magical and beautiful time of the year.
