Why Toads & Princesses Get Along Nicely
Posted on | March 3, 2011
Yesterday I left the office and went on a field trip to Mr. Toad’s trunk show at the home of Ana Pettus, local handbag designer and the voice behind the blog Ana Pettus Diaries. Her friends, Mike and Jack were in town after a show in Houston and set-up shop for the day to exhibit their wares to the Dallas tastemakers. I am on the hunt for unique accessories for a new client and was overwhelmed by the selection they had available. There were recent and vintage pieces from designers such as Chanel, Lanvin, Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino and more.
One of the primary things I look for when selecting accessories for myself or clients is that each piece be it’s own conversation piece. All of us have the deep seeded desire to be special, unique, princesses in our own right. Though many mass market producers sometimes do create interesting pieces I find vintage or one-of-a-kind accessories give even the most basic outfit a much greater impact. In this Look Book, I have put together a selection of accessories that illustrate this idea. As you build your jewelry and accessory wardrobe, before you purchase each piece, ask yourself if that piece is different, unique, something you’ll keep for years to come and whether it truly will add to each look you create with it. Essentially if someone will comment on it or ask about it (in a good way) it’s probably what you are looking for.
