Rock On!!!…the “Rocker Look” for Everyday

Posted on | February 23, 2010

Rock on, dolls!  Just returned from Fall 2010 New York Fashion Week and word is….the rocker look lives on. Studded clothing and accessories, black leather pants, dresses…well everything. The look has been around …well… since rock and roll began! The edge.  The black eye liner.  The Levis.  Is there more?  Absolutely!  The rocker look has completely evolved.  Totally.  And what’s amazing about this look – the “rocker” look – is that everyone can play.  Everyone can find some type of rock and roll look to do in their wardrobe.  It’s only a matter of looking at your record…er….CD….er…iPod collection and determine which rocker rocks you the most!

Reading SPIN Magazine I was totally fascinated by their article on “Role Models.”  The article talked about various rockers today finding their fashion inspiration look from rockers of the past.  They not only found their inspiration in their sounds, but in their fashions as well.  Not the time anymore to just go for the sound.  Today the music scene is about a LOT of different parts.  The music, the sound…and…dare I say (most importantly) the look.  All in one, happy bundle.  But instead of copying the look to the T, these rockers today and learning to alter the classic look to a modern style.

Designers such as D&G or Marc Jacobs or the late Alexander McQueen fashioned many rocker icons today and there are numerous other big named designers who can add their modern touch to a classic vibe. VV Brown models her look after Cyndi Lauper but instead of wearing her exact wardrobe, Brown models the “look” of what Cyndi Lauper presented. The fun, frilly, girly and colorful look.  And you can do the same. Read more

Good Morning Texas: Fashion Week Recap & Career Wardrobe on a Budget

Posted on | February 22, 2010

Valerie Elizabeth talks about Fall 2010 New York Fashion Week and Building a Career Wardrobe You Don’t Hate…on a budget. For more detailed information and additional pictures you can read the corresponding blog HERE.

Building A Career Wardrobe You Don’t Hate

Posted on | February 22, 2010

If you tuned into to Good Morning Texas this AM you likely heard me talking about buying career pieces on a budget (for under $100.) The most important element of a work wardrobe on a budget is make sure pieces have versatility. I believe everyone should have the following versatile pieces in their work wardrobe to be mixed and matched to extend the number of looks you can create with the wardrobe you have. If you are on a budget or like most people don’t want to spend your hard earned money on “work clothes” start with these items and build out. You’ll be surprised how many looks you can create.

And I want to encourage you to create looks for work that you don’t hate. You likely spend most of your life working, you should spend it in clothes you love. Very few jobs still require a boring one color suit with hose. So spice it up a bit and show your co-workers that just because you are at work doesn’t mean you can’t still have style.

10 CAREER WARDROBE MUST-HAVES

1. LITTLE BLACK DRESS

You know I couldn’t recommend a wardrobe without a versatile LBD

When Bad List Management Happens to Good PR Firms

Posted on | February 18, 2010

My thoughts on the general PR-Firm-List-Management-for-Fashion-Week-Issue…

This is my open letter to the Public Relations firms who may want to consider rethinking their list management strategy. Please understand, I (I/Me always means “Press” generically) am not angry with you. I am not trying to instigate anything. If you are bothered by this then it IS probably directed at you. If you did your job and your show was handled professionally this is NOT directed at you. Notice I am not naming any names. The people who left hundreds (or even just tens) of press people outside of their events, or in places where they could not see the show, know who they are. And this letter is to them. It is designed to encourage improvement in what I’ve identified as a “growth” area.

Dear “You-Know-If-This-Is-You” PR Firm:

I don’t think I should need to remind anyone but maybe I do…the purpose of a fashion show, is ultimately to sell clothes. So the two types of people you want there are “buyers” who can place orders and “press” who can write about your line and drive consumers to “buy” from the “buyers. A few celebs to drive press stories but that’s essentially it.

So when you plan your next show, think about the following…. Read more

First Look at Kardashian Bebe Show at NYFW

Posted on | February 16, 2010

Guests at Bebe Kardashian were not to be disappointed as Kim Kardashian arrived just a few minutes before showtime and posed graciously for the zillion photogs, who made it out in the middle of a brewing snow storm to get footage of the E star’s Fall 2010 New York Fashion Week show. Style360 and Elle Magazine played hosts for the show with a slew of sponsors including Toni & Guy’s TIGI & Pop Chips.

Kim was seated in the one remaining front row seat, immediately in front of me. So funny to be literally inches from her…a little sad not to have a good angle to get pics of her response to the line but hey here I am behind her in this @BellesnReBelles TwitPic. Funny!

Also front row was Jay Manuel of E! Entertainment but no one got more attention (possibly not even Kim Kardashian herself) than New Jersey Shore’s JWOWW, who was outfitted in a jersey dress by Ed Hardy. Interesting.

Though I typically am not a huge Bebe fan I know many readers are and as a Kardashian fan (love how she took her career as a stylist to super-stardom) I felt this would be a great show to cover, and it was. I was actually very impressed with the line as a whole. The style was classic Kardashian/So Cal casual yet chic and I believe the attractiveness, affordability and versatility of the line will ensure it sells well. Read more
