Things to be thankful for.

This past year has been a whirlwind of growth and success and many things to be thankful for. Exactly one year— to the day— after launching my blog “The Diary of Elizabeth Hearst” I received a call that changed the course of this past month. I was one of eight bloggers selected in a nationwide search to find America’s Most Stylish Blogger. Those of you who follow my Twitter, Facebook or Blog have likely heard a bit about this already but I wanted to reach out to the rest of you and ask for your support.

We are entering the final week of the competition and I am currently in second place. With your votes over this next week my hope is to secure the #1 spot. The competition is put on by AOL StyleList and BlueFly and the prize package includes a Blogger Shop on BlueFly and a fashion column on AOL’s StyleList. As you can imagine this is an amazing opportunity to take my blog to a whole new level.

Those of you who know me, know I hate asking for anything…especially help. But that is what this competition is about; they are looking to see which blogger has the most support. So I am asking you for your help. I hope I can count on your for your support in this last week, it will truly take less than a minute of your time.

Thank you in advance for your friendship and your support!!!!

XOXO,

Valerie Elizabeth

Adam Lippes Breaks Down America’s Most Stylish Blogger

Posted on | November 24, 2009

Watch as designer Adam Lippes of ADAM and StyleList’s Melissa Foss break down the bloggers looks in Week 5 in the search for America’s Most Stylish Blogger. He got two things right about my outfit…I was trying to hide the leggings and I didn’t love them. I have to admit this week was by far the toughest challenge. I discovered pairing a blue tie-dyed pant with anything is difficult. I did learn a new trick though. Put your Spanx tights on, underneath your leggings, to keep your leggings looking firm. That new discovery alone was worth styling the tie-dyed tights. VOTE for Valerie Elizabeth HERE!!!

America’s Most Stylish Blogger: The FINAL Week

Posted on | November 24, 2009

So your vote is needed, now more than ever. I am in second place and I need your votes daily- and the daily votes of everyone you know- to clinch the #1 spot by next Tuesday. CLICK HERE TO VOTE!!! After evaluating a rack of clothes that could potentially be paired with this unique Plan B legging; I decided to resurrect my famous Little Black Dress. In August, I wore this LBD for 31 days in what I called The Little Black Dress Experiment and documented the experience on my blog. My goal was to illustrate to my readers how they could take a simple piece in their wardrobe and accessorize it to create innumerable looks. In this week’s look I wanted to reaffirm that you truly can pair your little black dress with…anything.

ABSB Week 5 Pic Valerie Elizabeth 998x1842Inspired by the legging’s crushed-leather-meets-tie-dye look, I paired the outfit with a navy blue crushed-leather, on trend, motorcycle jacket. Many people ask how to pair a motorcycle jacket with an LBD? This is how. I added a belt that lends definition to my waist and a great knee-high boot to break up the pattern on my leg. Want to know the secret to getting your legs to look lean in a patterned legging? Wear SPANX “body-shaping tights” underneath your leggings. They keep your legs looking fit and in cold weather add a little warmth as well.

Many of you have loyally followed the “America’s Most Stylish Blogger” competition for inspiration on how to style a single item in unique and different ways. Though you might not own the items we competed in, there is a good chance you own a Little Black Dress. Visit my website, Society Stylist to continue the style education experience and discover 31 more ways you can style your Little Black Dress. While you are there, be sure to cast your vote for the AOL StyleList.com & BlueFly.com “America’s Most Stylish Blogger.”

ELLE Magazine Editor Styles the TIFFANY & CO. Key Collection

Posted on | November 22, 2009

In a fashion-meets-charity party setting, hosted by TIFFANY & CO. and ELLE Magazine— and benefiting the Junior League— some of Dallas’ most philanthropic fashionistas came out to meet the fabulous Joe Zee, creative director for ELLE MAGAZINE and recent reality star on The City. Unfortunately, as the party started, the famed Joe Zee was back in New York City, laid up with the Swine flu. In his absence ELLE Magazine sent an excellent substitute, their Executive Accessories Editor, Kate Davidson Hudson. Who better to share hints, tips and styling ideas on how to pair the elegant TIFFANY & CO accessories with the current trends we are seeing in fashion.

The presentation centered on the new TIFFANY & CO keys collection but also included other great jewelry pairings offered by the iconic jeweler. What I loved? The fact that the key collection was created based on a compilation of historical keys TIFFANY & CO had in their archives. For years the jeweler created the unique keys for trunks, diaries and other special commissions. Over the years, as the keys have come back into their possession, they were placed in the TIFFANY & CO archives. Recently, the design team selected their favorite key designs, incorporating them into this new collection; giving the vintage TIFFANY & CO style a modern day wearability. The famed keys come in platinum, gold and even silver both with and without diamonds. One of my favorite keys, a sterling silver version- and the one I thought looked most authentic vintage- has an unbelievable TIFFANY & CO price point of just $175.

DJ Lucy Wrubel entertained with her great selection of tunes while guests— who went home with the latest issue of ELLE Magazine— enjoyed drinks at the bar set-up in the pass thru between showrooms.

Familiar faces included: D’Andra Simmons, Gay Donnell, Angela Nash and Lisa Bhattacharya. Models circulated through the crowd giving partygoers an up close look at the new collection; while TIFFANY & CO representatives were there in abundance, ready to open a case or ring up a sale for anyone interested. They appeared to be doing a lot of both. I have to say I think the key is the new heart. If you want to purchase one for yourself or a friend or loved on for Christmas, I suggest you do it before Thanksgiving if you can. Trust me, these keys will be sold out- everywhere.

GLAMOUR Magazine Brings the Party to HUGO BOSS

Posted on | November 20, 2009

When I got the request to help Glamour Magazine host a party at Hugo Boss Dallas—with Bobbi Brown— I immediately said yes. Then I thought…where is Hugo Boss? Do they have women’s clothes? And…they sell Bobbi Brown? Well the answers are 1) downstairs in NorthPark— near Mac— across from Barney’s, 2) yes, they have a very nice ladies line and their men’s line is phenomenal as well, and 3) no but they were giving it away; which I think…is even better.

Regardless of the mystery, I pushed on and put my little heart and soul into promoting it and recruited a little help from my publicist to spread the word to the press…thank you to the Dallas Morning News for the promo piece. And low and behold there was an amazing turnout. The party was scheduled from 6-8PM and was extended until closing time due to the success. I don’t know what the sales figures were but I saw quite a few people hauling out purchases and I saw the caterers hauling in more wine. So my assessment…success. Oh and I guess it didn’t hurt that both Alfonso, the regional manager for Hugo Boss and our lovely Kiersten, from Glamour verbalized their excitement over the turnout for the event. Some familiar faces included: Culley Barragan, LeeAnne Locken, Bri & Yvonne Crum, Quia Querisma, Caramie Cason, Evan Fogelman and Kate Cannon. Read more

NYFW: Backstage with Lydia Hearst

Posted on | November 18, 2009

I had the opportunity to interview model Lydia Hearst while she was backstage at the taping of the Marc Bouwer Spring 2010 runway show at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week on September 11, 2009. She explains the mystery behind supergluing her feet to her shoes, talks about her favorites jeans (ACNE,) her affection for her heirloom vintage furs- passed down from her grandmother- and her personal love for style and fashion. And guess what….she does all her own styling. She truly was a delight to interview and as you’ll see in the interview she is such a beautiful girl, both inside and out. Enjoy!!!
