Celeb Handbag Designer Rebecca Minkoff Now at Nordstrom
Posted on | March 22, 2009
We caught up with Rebecca Minkoff, today at Nordstrom @The Grove. The sucessful, twenty-six year old, celeb handbag designer was doing an in-store appearance to promote her bags; now available at Nordstrom stores nationwide. Her timely appearance coincided with an in-store appearance by Fergie. (The PR girls must have been going crazy.) Nordstrom showcased quite a selection of her hot new flourescents for Spring. Minkoff graciously conversed with fans of her line and personally autographed any bag that was purchased at the event. If you didn’t catch the in-store appearance you can find her bags at hundreds of store across the country. Some quick tips, if you want to see them in person [in Dallas] visit Neiman Marcus or the Ritz-Carlton. Can’t make it out to the shops? Order yours online at www.RebeccaMinkoff.com. Follow Rebecca on Twitter @ http://twitter.com/RebeccaMinkoff

LA Fashion Week: What Comes Around Goes Around Hollywood Launch Party
Posted on | March 19, 2009
Welcome to LA Fashion Week. It may be a little scattered, it may be a little discombobulated but it has finally arrived and I am here to bring you all of the details. The What Comes Around Goes Around launch event last night, at their new boutique in Space 15 Twenty, was a great starting point for me to drop in and check out the festivities here in town. Upon arrival two stylish, smiling (IPE #1) girls greeted us, at the check-in table, quickly found our names on the list (IPE #2) and presented us with the keys to the party. Yes, actual keys. All party guests were given vintage style keys, hanging on leather-look necklaces as their party passes— symbolic of the iconic The What Comes Around Goes Around logo. There was a great turnout and I have to give props to Grace Hwang and her team at ThinkPR. They put together a great host committee (IPE #3), which made for a great crowd (IPE #4). In all fairness, I must admit that I might not be the best judge as I could likely have fun anywhere. However, with the number of household names on the list I am sure every reader is bound to know at least one of these hostesses-with-the-mostesses (quite possibly not a real word).
The first host we spoke with was Nicole Chavez; celebrity stylist most known for her work with the cast of LA and current Nicole was approached by ThinkPR to be a part of the Fashion Council host committee. She didn’t know who all was on the committee until she received the invitation but said she was thrilled to be included with the ladies on the committee. A note to the folks at Fashion Week A) Nicole had no idea the What Comes Around Goes Around event was part of LA Fashion Week and worse B) didn’t realize Fashion Week was even going on. I am not an expert on this (okay well maybe I am) but if you are hosting LA Fashion Week you may want to get the word out to at least the top stylists in town. They shouldn’t need to hire a fashion researcher to find out when it is. Does no one maintain an LA Social Register? Maybe we need to bring The Society Social Register to LA. That being said Nicole was very friendly and accompanied us to the bar where we found Karma champagne being served in adorable baby-bottle shaped glass bottles. We wisely got straws to drink with as, at least for me, trying to drink out of an odd shaped bottle while walking around a crowded room (in six inch heels), greeting people and balancing a camera and a Twitter update device (read: iPhone) is potentially very dangerous.
Drinks in hand, we returned to the red carpet (IPE #5) in time to catch appearances by Katherine Power and Hillary Kerr of WhoWhatWear? If you don’t follow them on Twitter yet, their user ID is WhoWhatWear (ingenious I know). Then out of nowhere in walks Lisa Rinna looking tanned, gorgeous and young. She was quickly ushered on the red carpet where she posed beautifully for pictures and then patiently answered endless questions for the press. We were able to catch her later in the evening and she was charming as can be. Though I haven’t figured out why her name wasn’t on the invite as she was a gracious as you could have asked from any host.
Dallas’ own Erin Wasson was next to have her time in front of the Singer 22 step and repeat and she had a little bit of an advantage as she poses for a living. Her pics were great and she posed for a few more inside with the great vintage denim looks from the new line. We caught up with her in the store and she was as friendly as could be and told us she grew up in Irving and attended MacArthur High School. She currently travels all over the world for work and had actually just flown in from NYC, though she says she tries to spend all of her holidays and breaks back in Dallas with her family. With how much traveling she does she probably just wants some down time when she gets a chance.
While enjoying the new So Cal weather out on the patio, we ran into Nicole Richie who was sweet as could be. To all those of you who asked, she looked awesome not at all waifish and though she could probably stand to put on a few pounds I have to say there are worse things one could have to face. Such as the fashion overload you can see on the potential party guest (don’t think he made it in) pictured in the festive blue outfit.
The mannequin looking models were well styled by Jahn Hall and sported great vintage looks that incorporated the stores new line with the fabulous vintage pieces they offer. Before we adjourned to the after party at Citizen’s (IPE #6) we were treated to a tour of the store’s Couture vintage section by What Comes Around Goes Around owner Gerard Maione and GM Monica Martin. Good news Dallasites, Monica will be bringing What Comes Around Goes Around to town for a trunk show at Tootsies in a few weeks. The vintage looks were amazing and included a number of beautiful handbags but sad to say no Birkins. So, my search continues. In fact I may write a book entitled “Not Bringing Home the Birkin.”
Well I am off to The French Crepe Company at The Grove. I guess I’ll have to drown my Birkinless sorrows in sugary crepe, at least until tonight’s MOCA show, featuring styles from Decades. Reportedly, Decades owner, Cameron Silver has quite a collection of the iconic bag. Maybe he could just let me road-test them, one at a time.

Blog Bonus: Important Party Elements
So for those of you trying figure out what the heck “IPE” means. This is our quick little tip list for you reviewing the “Important Party Elements” for you to remember before you attempt to host your next bash.
1. Smiling welcoming committee- guests are excited to be there, you want them to know you
are excited they are there.
2. Quick check-in- guests are there to attend your event, not stand in line.
3. Great host committee- unless you are Brtiney Spears, it will take more than one person to get a large group of people together. With a good host committee you can easily expect a minimum of 20 people per host to attend your event. Note: make sure the people you ask to be on your committee socialize with the type of guests you want at your event.
4. Great group of guests- this should be self explanatory but it is hard to call your event a success if no one shows or if the people who show don’t have a good time. You always need a balance of “fun makers” at your event to keep things moving.
5. Red Carpet- a red carpet with a branded step and repeat is always a great element for a party. If you won’t have celebrities in attendance, let your guests get treated to party pics and make them feel like stars for coming out to your event. Note: if you throw a lot of events just buy your own red carpet. Most magazines have their own step and repeat so if you don’t have one or can’t work it in the budget get a media partner to come out and cover your party.
6. After party- somewhere for your party guests to go when they are done at your event but not ready to go home. Only necessary if you aren’t prepared for them to stay all night. What Tempts You? WIN a Weekend in NYC from Wacoal

Happy St. Patrick’s Day…Break out your Green Flair!!!
Posted on | March 17, 2009
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!! Though the holiday originated in a celebration of the patron saint of Ireland; in the U.S. some of the customs of the holiday have evolved to include drinking Irish beer, eating corned beef & hash and wearing green. The custom of wearing green is very important—especially to grade schoolers— be festive and wear green to avoid the St. Patty’s Day pinch. There are so many fun and flattering shades of green on the market, brighten up your Tuesday and wear a little St. Patty’s Day flair to the office. Affordable Styles Right at Your Fingertips
Posted on | March 10, 2009
Just in time for LA Fashion Week we bring you access to Heritage 1981 and Twelve by Twelve. With the word “recession” looming around every corner, we all are feeling the impact of the economy. However, most of us have a hard time letting go of our desire to splurge on our favorite styles. While many may have to cut back on the Cavalli and Choo for awhile, never fear there are many options for keeping up with the latest trend pieces on a budget. We all are familiar with Forever 21, as they have been very effective meeting the needs of the teen market and bringing trend pieces to the masses, making shopping at their store both affordable and guilt-free. What you may not have discovered yet are their two sister brands, Heritage 1981 and Twelve by Twelve of Los Angeles. Not in LA? No problem. They now have an online store filled with their popular retro inspired looks. There are glamorous, Mare West throwbacks and Mod girl Twiggy dresses for the taking. Visit their website to see more. http://www.forever21.com/twelve
