Spring Clean Your Make-up

Posted on | March 12, 2012

As we all Spring forward we are regularly reminded that this is a great time to change the batteries in the smoke detectors. It also is a great time to clean out your make-up bag and clean your brushes. Though some recommend you clean your brushes weekly, I doubt many of you actually follow this advice. At minimum let the twice annual time change be a reminder to not just clean your brushes but clean all your make-up as well.

The excess make-up and dirt on your make-up products can be transferred to your skin when you apply your make-up which makes cleaning your make-up a regular must-do. Though some products last longer than their “shelf-life” may indicate remember mascara should be used right away and if you have any that’s been sitting around, throw it out as it can dry out and become an irritant for your eyes.

Go thru each article of make-up you have and determine if you should keep it or toss it. If you decide to keep it, be sure to clean it out and wipe away any dust or excess make-up residue, Keep a pad of paper and pen handy so you can write down anything you need to purchase next time you are out shopping at Sephora, Neiman Marcus, CVS or where ever you purchase your beauty favorites. If you have staple products you use quickly be sure to check online sales and gift with purchase events to make the most of your beauty dollars.

Don’t Miss the Neiman Marcus Gift With Purchase

Posted on | March 3, 2012

Just a reminder, the Neiman Marcus Beauty Event ends tomorrow, Sunday March 4.  So if you need to stock up on any of your favorite cosmetics, now is the time. Not sure why but it goes against everything inside of me to pay full price for department store cosmetics and NOT get some sort of gift with purchase. A lot of the cosmetics items I use I’ve been able to find ways to buy them at a discount online. My favorite lip plumper however is not only not available at a discount it is hard to find at full price. For this reason I tend to stock up, when I find it in stock.

In response to a craving for pop-overs I unexpectedly ended up at Neiman Marcus yesterday for lunch. Since I avoid busy times at the mall at all costs I thought I should run thru my “to buy” lit since I was already there. I realized last week I had run thru my stockpile and was down to the final swipes of my last tube of lip plumper. As I headed out of the store I was reminded they were still in “Beauty Event.” A free tote full of samples, with a purchase of $100. You’d think I would have planned this since but in this case I just lucked into it I was certainly going to take advantage of it.

After lunch I stopped by the Dior counter to see if they had any of my “Lip Maximizer” and learned that with a $150 purchase they had an additional Dior Gift With Purchase. True $150 is a bit steep but since I typically buy at least four at a time I was thrilled to walk away with two GWPs (gift with purchase) in addition to the products I needed.

The good news? The Dior gift was amazing, valued at nearly $150. I actually use a number of the products included and had been interested in trying the face cream. Since the L’or de Vie alone retails for $392 this truly was the perfect way to try the product. A grey patent cosmetic bag including a 5ml jar of L’or de Vie, a travel sized five-color eye shadow palette with, a mini tube of red lipstick, a travel sized DiorShow Maximizer lash primer and a tube of Dior Iconic Mascara.

The Neiman Marcus gift bag was a little bit of a disappointment from years past but still not a bad deal. I think the exact bag and contents may vary from store to store but mine included the following:

-Golden python embossed lined tote with brown faux leather straps

-La Mer Reparative Body Lotion

-Molton Brown bath & shower gel

-Kate Clinic to Go Resurfacing Peel Pad

-Fekkai advanced sample

-Cle de peau mystery box

-Tom Ford Neroli Portofino eau de parfum sample

-Kiehls line eraser

Bad news? The samples were VERY small and the best part, the La Mer is actually an empty jar. The saleswoman that helped me failed to mention I had to take the La Mer sample to get the cream put in it and the Cle de Peau box was empty and must be “redeemed” at the counter. Call me too picky but I prefer a ready to go package. I understand the “marketing” element on the end of the companies including the products but as the end consumer an actual “gift” is more appealing to me.

If you have any beauty products you’ve been waiting to buy, don’t miss the beauty event…get into Neiman Marcus before it ends tomorrow.Don’t have time to get in the store? The gift is also available online at the Neiman Marcus website.

Mercedes Benz Blue On Your Nails

Posted on | February 20, 2012

Every season the tents at New York Fashion Week are packed with vendors promoting new products, giving away gifts and services and fabulously dressed onlookers taking it all in. The shows have long been sponsored by Mercedes Benz and this year was no exception. Just inside the main doors the magical people who get cars inside buildings had parked a silver Mercedes SUV. Though it certainly was a nice car what caught my eye was the coordinated display of shoes, handbags and gowns designed by Naeem Khan.

The shoes were designed in the colors of the Mercedes exterior and handbags designed in the fabrication of the interiors and dash wood grain. The controversy over whether you should match your handbag and your shoes, goes on year after year but really matching your handbag and your shoes to your car?

A closer look…

Mercedes Benz partnered with Polyvore to let “empower fashion enthusiasts to explore their personal style through a social platform that allows for the creation of virtual sets powered by Polyvore, with the Mercedes-Benz Star Style

Fashion Week attendees were invited to “vote via their mobile device for their favorite set.” Each day you could take the whole coordinated look thing one step further by visiting the style technician at the Essie kiosk to receive a special Essie nail polish inspired by exclusive Mercedes-Benz vehicle paint colors.

And this is how I came to love, Mercedes Benz blue. [official name designo Mystic Blue midnight cami by Essie.]

Do You Need A Mint?

Posted on | November 27, 2011

Ever been gracefully been offered a mint?  We know what that means; bad breath. Let’s avoid these awkward moments by keeping a few “always kissable” beauty survival items at the ready. A travel toothbrush/toothpaste set is compact and convenient. Great for when you return to work after a tasty lunch out. They can be left in your desk drawer for quick cleanings.  Not near a sink?  With liquid breath freshener drops or a swig of Scope can work wonders. Just a quick blast in your mouth for a fresh breath booster!

Lastly, with winter upon us, dry lips are an ongoing battle. Remember, chapped lips are neither kissable nor sexy.  Keep your favorite lip balm everywhere you find yourself often.  Have one in your car, your purse or briefcase, your desk at work, the kitchen…you may need to moisten them throughout the day so having  few handy really makes that easier. With fresh breath and soft lips, you’ll always be kissable.

Could a travel toothbrush/toothpaste, liquid breath freshener, or lip balm have helped you survive a fashion styling emergency? You’ll find each of these products in the SOCIETY STYLIST® Survival Kit: On-The-Go Bag. We’d love to hear how these products could’ve helped you survive your fashion styling emergency.

Check out our new line of SOCIETY STYLIST® Survival Kits and be prepared to “survive any fashion styling emergency.”

FREE SHIPPING from DIOR with the code “SUBMISSION”

Some women can pull of the fabulous red lip look like they’re wearing chapstick, that they applied while riding a bike. I on the other hand find it a bit more daunting. Though I love the look I find there are so many associate challenges. For example, how to keep it on my lips on not my clothes, cheeks or worse teeth. Or most importantly how to find “the right red.”Well I found one. Well actually, I didn’t find it, it found me.

I love picking up the mail and discovering packages I didn’t order. This week I found a little treat from Glamour. A bottle of Dior’s J’Adore. I loved it even before smelling it. It’s just so easy to say J’Adore Dior. (translated “I adore Dior”) The words roll off your tongue. Surely their marketing team planned this. The sleek gold and white packaging have a minimalist feel and honestly, anything labeled “Made in France” will get at least a moment of my attention.

BEAUTY: Brush It Off

Posted on | September 22, 2011

Ever have one of those days when you seriously cannot do a thing with your hair?  No matter what you do nothing seems to work.  We have put our hair in clips, in headbands, in ponytails.  And then we re-do the entire cycle.  Again. And again. Back to brushing it. Maybe if we just re-blow dry the bangs, it will look better.

BEAUTY: Just BROWsing…

Posted on | September 21, 2011

The best advice for women from most make-up artists is to “frame the face.”  This means that the most important features that need to be paid attention to are the brows, eyes and mouth.  Sometimes we forget about the brows.  We sometimes forget them until we come face to face with one of those magnifying mirrors.  That’s a wake up call!  Regardless, it really shows how important our brows are to our face.
