Day 10: In My Little Black Dress
LOOK OF THE DAY

What is The Little Black Dress Experiment all about? Read the introduction here.
TIP OF THE DAY
Anyone can look stylish with a lot of money. The challenge is using limited resources to achieve a stylish look. My favorite deals and steals often come from Buffalo Exchange, a nation wide clothing trade and swap shop. Want some fresh looks without spending a dime. Take some of your giveaways into Buffalo Exchange and trade them for some new-to-you styles. I have found everything from designer Valentino to vintage Bob Mackie, new Radley and more. Their prices average 90% off retail and often you will find brand new merchandise there.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: What is your most memorable shopping deal…and where did you get it?
LOCATION OF THE DAY: On my video set…soon we’ll be airing webisodes on the Society Stylist network

PRICE: $3295 Deco Glamour, with SS Diamond Strap; $2695 Deco Glamour, head only; $200 Silver Alligator Strap
ABOUT THE PIECE: The Deco style is one of the top seller’s for MICHELE. The Deco Glamour just seems like a perfect match for me, right? Bringing together two of my favorites, MICHELE & Glamour. This month I’ll be pairing this watch head with a variety of straps from my strap wardrobe to showcase how changing the strap on your watch can change not just the look of the watch but often the look of the outfit as well. Today I paired it with the Silver Alligator Strap
SHOES: Michael Kors
ABOUT THE PIECE: Purchased in LA at Loehmann’s, for $70 in March 2008. Loehmann’s is the bargain shoppers Mecca…but a huge mess and quite overwhelming, Go in well-rested, ready for a hunt and prepared to search,
HANDBAG: Elli Grace
ABOUT THE PIECE: I absolutely love this oversized white leather sloughy tote. Custom made for the new designer, Elli Grace, the leather is to die for. I think they may have one left in caramel so get it before it is gone. They are on sale now at Elli Grace $150 ,original price $250. A steal at full price, trust me.
SCARF: Target
ABOUT THE PIECE: I received this perfect light blue scarf for Mother’s Day from my parents. I absolutely love the shade of blue and it is so light and soft. The scarf came from Target’s spring 2009 line and cost less than $15. I cannot emphasize enough the versatility of these scarves.
BELT: BCBG MAXAZRIA
ABOUT THE PIECE: No surprise here, it like the majority of my belts came from the swap and trade shop, Buffalo Exchange. I believe I paid $13, well technicality whenever I give you a price for Buffalo Exchange I didn’t actually have to pay cash for it, I traded clothing for credit and used the credit to purchase new pieces.
EARRINGS: Elli Grace
ABOUT THE PIECE: Designer for Elli Grace, Sue Yang does amazing beaded work and present beautiful pieces of jewelry in her store. My new favorite is this pair of gorgeous silver and gold chandelier earrings. Not cheap at $72 (after the 20% off runway show discount) full retail $90, but absolutely stunning and worth every penny.
ABOUT THE DAY
Today was a fun, productive, busy day. Did a bunch of website updates and figured out quite a few things for the site gallery and video blog. Always great to have someone 10 years younger than you around. Easy way to feel old. Literally 40 seconds after I asked my assistant to help me figure out something I’d been struggling with for months on Smug Mug she begins with “Oh, so here it is.” My response? “Can you just sit there for ten minutes or so pretending to figure it out, just to make me feel better?” LOL. Ah I jest, sitting around is wasteful, let’s hear it for efficiency.
Consignment sales went great over the weekend and we had armfuls of items to ship both here I in the US and around the world. Got our web numbers back and the last week surpassed the last month and crazily today surpassed some months we’ve had in the past. We hit 1,000 Twitter followers today and held the drawing for the winner of the Drive to 1,000 campaign. Winner and prizes to be announced this week.
Touched base with one of my favorite LA Bloggers, Laurie Brucker and am going to be doing an interview with her for the LA Examiner, on Thursday. Speaking of interviews our segment with Roni Proter aired on CW33 today and was awesome. Look for it on our website tomorrow. Well will so much fun I am going to call it a night. Will see you tomorrow, in my LBD.

I am a shopping-deal-aholic, so I am always on the hunt for great deals. However, one in particular stands out in my memory. I was at Off Fifth (Saks outlet) and found a gorgeous and soft camel colored blazer. So beautiful, but marked at $695. Ouch! I noticed it was a Loro Piana and that made sense! However, I noticed that it was in a sales section so with a quick check at the register for the price found out that it was marked down… marked down…and marked down again (stickers must have fallen off?) to a final price of $60! Score! A fabulous Loro Piana cashmere blazer for $60. Just a reminder to always double check the price because you never know! It was a great day!

Most people who know me consider me a great shopper. I just really know how to find the bargains. My $80 Prada shoes were pretty great, but my two best finds have been in the last few months. I found a VBH envelope clutch bag—regular $700—for $50. I was pretty excited, but then along came the Jimmy Choo bag—regular $1700—for $200. I was ecstatic. All of this was found at the Junior League Bargain Box in Longview. The Bargain Box gets its merchandise from the Neiman Marcus Distribution Center in Longview, and it’s certainly a shop that is worth checking out whenever you are in the area. You just might be surprised at the “treasures” you will find.
